We’re big fans of the environment (it’s where we keep all our stuff), so we know it’s important to recycle.
Help us out by recycling the beats from the latest episode of commodoreHUSTLE and make your own rap, or remix ours, do whatever you want as long as it uses some of Jer’s phat beats!
Here’s an instrumental MP3 of the track, and for those with a Mac, the Garageband file, for maximum remixation.
- Runners Rap MP3 (right click to save)
- Garageband ‘09 File (right click to save)
- Garageband ‘07 File (right click to save, when you open it “Skip” the missing file dialog)
Send in your completed remix(es) by June 15, 2009. The entry deemed most awesome by The BossesĀ gets a medal and eternal fame. So get cracking, Runners, you’ve got two weeks!

Original Lyrics
The runners are back -crack-crack on the streets
With a dot-dot-circle we’re the triad to beat
Although we’re white we rep rights for minorities
And appreciate the nuance of their comedy
We don’t torture puppies and we don’t beat girls
But we’ll photoshop your assets with mosaic and twirl
We’re the hardest crop of nerds in the V8V
You’ll know we’re coming by the laughter of our enemies
We’re not above the law and we’re not about the fame
We think communist dictatorships are really pretty lame
Our beats may not be fresh, but they’re ziplocked and cooled
And our fans will never notice, like dark helmet we’ve FOOLED YOU
The runners are sweet
We own these streets
Or at least we’re considering a layaway lease
You can use these leet beats to write your own song

“Man, these beets are so fresh!”
“No way, Morgan, they’re recycled!”
Oh, damn, the GarageBand file doesn’t work with iLife ‘08. T3h suck.
Odd, it works in my version.
Let me look into that.
Yeah, I use ‘09. That said, I probably have an ‘07 version of the Yummies rap kicking around — it uses all the same instrumental loops, but lacks the vocals from this video.
Would that help?
OK — So heres the deal. I can’t upload files or edit posts on this blog just at this second, but I’m currently sending Graham a version of the Yummies rap, which should work in iLife 07+ … maybe even iLife 06 — I made that file a while ago.
THE FILE CONTAINS ALL OF THE LOOPS USED IN THE RUNNERS RAP, though this may not be readily apparent. The catch is, I can’t “save” the track without converting it to iLife 09, so it still appears to be the Yummies rap; however, if you dig deeper, you’ll discover the truth: that Garageband files contain a lot of redudnant garbage.
To access the loops:
1– right click the fie
2– click “view package contents”
3– open the folder called “Media”
See all those “no effects” files? That’s every take of every loop in the song, including the ones for the scratch version I did to show to the crew before we actually recorded anything.
I unfortunately don’t know which ones are the final versions, but I’m sure somebody can figure it out by wading through all the blown takes and scratch reels – It might even be a fun little treasure hunt. If anyone does this, please be sporting and let everyone know what files to use :).
Thanks, Jer, this really helps, I’ll sift through it and see which are the good tracks. Oh, and the loops were already used in a rap? So we’re actually recycling a recycled beat? Would we get points of any kind if we just submitted the Yummies Rap?
Well, I don’t know that we give out smartass points ;). “Our beats are not fresh but they’re ziplocked and cooled / But out fans will never notice” pretty much sums up the situation. I’m flattered that some people think these are the best beats yet … but really they’re quite old ;).
Everything except No Effects #45 and #46 match perfectly with the vocals used in the video, though they don’t have all those cool filters and what not that were put on the vocals in the video. So I sent the Garageband file over the magic of the interwebs to a friend who has iLife ‘09, and he just exported a version with just the lyrics and sent it back to me. I tested it out, and if you put the beats track and this track together, it sounds pretty much like the video.

Is Morgan eligible? If only I lived in Oregon, then KillahByte could make a cameo appearance on the track! Surely, that would pwn anyone and everyone.
I’m the whitest guy this side of the Mississippi. I don’t know if that’s a hindrance or an advantage. I’ll have to give this some thought.
If you can get Morgan in your remix, more power to you.
Will the original version be put up for people who just want to have the song, of Jer/James/Matt/Bill singing it? I takes a while to have to load even just the beginning of the cH episode every time I want to hear it.
well i’ve never done anything like this before, so i cant say it’ll be a any good, but i’ll give it a shot.
@TorachiKatashi I’ll look into it.
I finally get to the point to get access to the site and this is the first challenge? Nice.
I promise to add in some beatboxing and riggity-rap-rap into it.
If I can come up with an angle for the rap, I might do this. I don’t wanna waste anyone’s time if it’s gonna be lame.
If it’s bad, the only person’s time you’ll be wasting is your own. : )
This sounds fun. I’ll def give it a go if I can think of something half decent.
I sent in mine. I think it missed the point of this operation even more than the original rap missed its goal.
When this is over, will all the entries be posted so we can see what other people did?
Oh, poo, my Garage Band isn’t working. No surprise, I’ve never used it in the three-and-a-half years I’ve had this computer.
@Zivlok: I’m sure we’ll share at least some of them. If nothing else, you’ll get to hear the winner.
Great challenge, I’m working on my entry right now. I do have a request though:
Can we get a version of this without the ‘Fooled you’ sample in the middle? I’m not blessed with a Mac so I can’t edit the Garage Band version :(
Thanks! I’m looking forward to listening to all the entries :)
My one is going to be so bad.
Ah, how far to run with this? :-) I take it there is no limit on number of entries? May have to submit a ’serious-awesome’ and a ’silly-awesome’…
Do we have permission to sample other videos?
-Adam
Oh, I just did a silly-awesome one.
@magicguy: Sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier–we’ve been at Anime Evolution all weekend. Feel free to sample other videos or send in more than one remix if you feel like it.
